Growing tensions between the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) and a local advertising company continue over the refusal of payment by the utility company for billboards allegedly modified for campaigning.
Earlier this week, reports surfaced that GWI and the advertising agency Impressions were at loggerheads over billboards ordered by the former.
When contacted yesterday, Neil Sooklall, owner of Impressions, indicated that he was not in the wrong in the ensuing conflict.
Instead, he questioned why he would erect billboards if they were not as specified. However, when questioned on whether GWI had indeed specified that the PPP/C logo and slogan was to be a part of the billboards, Sooklall danced around the question and instead maintained that he would share all of the correspondence between the agencies in due time.
Meanwhile, GWI is maintaining that it will not pay the bill worth nearly $7M. According to a GWI source, the billboards, costing about $350,000 each, were indeed ordered with specific designs that had been agreed upon by both parties. However, a subsequent check of the erected billboards showed that they did not conform to the previously agreed upon design but were instead modified to be used by the PPP/C for campaigning, with the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) elections slogan, “for a strong, stable and secure Guyana vote PPP/C” added.
The invoice indicated that nearly 2 dozen billboards were ordered by the utility company.
