The Linden Amateur Basketball Association (LABA), fresh off the court from its Inter-Ward Championships, will host a pre-Independence Basketball Competition on Monday at McKenzie Sports Club Court, under the banner ‘Because We Care’.
“This event is an attempt to raise funds and at the same time to assist Linden players selected to represent Guyana at the upcoming Championships,” the association, which had a new executive elected this year with Lawrence Simon as President, said yesterday in a press release.
It added that it will be continuing with its proliferation of the sport through programmes geared at generating interest. “This event will be one of LABA many promotions as we aim to improve basketball, the game we love…” the release continued.
“More so, our organisation is built on core values, personal, and team commitment, respect for others, integrity, performance and excellence,” it said. “Thus, one of our goals is to work along diligently… to achieve our aim,” the document added.
The two games planned for the Pre-Independence showdown include Amelia’s Ward Jets vs Half Mile Bulls and Georgetown’s Colts in an epic showdown against the Victory Valley Royals. The LABA thanked all for their support as they continue to build basketball in Linden.
