National Junior player, Kyle Edghill and national Cadet player, Jeremey Singh made their debut at the 2015 Canadian Open World Junior and Cadet Circuit, which is a prestigious event that the International Table
Tennis Federation (ITTF) organises.
The circuit was held during May 11-14 in Markham Ontario, Canada. The duo left Guyana May 9 to wield their racquets against the world’s elite junior players. “Edghill and Jeremey are two of our emerging talents who will benefit tremendously from this engagement,” President of Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA), Godfrey Munroe said in a press release.
“The tournament provides the opportunity for Edghill and Jeremy to benefit from much needed exposure in view of developing their tactical and technical capacity,” the release continued while adding that the engagement will also be used to gain critical world ranking for the players, which is key a key element in advancing their competitiveness in future international and regional competitions.
Edghill competed in the 18 years and under boys singles and teams competition while Singh will be competing in the cadet boys singles and teams competitions, both in the Pan American Centre and the event is being used to test their preparedness.
Former national player and coach, Lisa Lewis managed the team. The GTTA noted that Chelsea Edghill has participated in this event with great honours in the past, having won gold in the girls cadets in 2012 and Bronze in 2013.
