– highlight some areas that Govt. must tackle
With a massive prayer service, supporters of the new A Partnership For National Unity and Alliance For Change (APNU+AFC) Government welcomed President David Granger.
The service was held at the APNU+AFC Anna Regina office yesterday.
The Church service was led by Pastor Minerva Roberts-Britton of the Suddie Full Gospel Church. Supporters sang songs including ‘What a mighty God we serve’, ‘My God is able’, ‘Lift Jesus higher’ and ‘See what the Lord has done’, among others.
Pastor Roberts-Britton in her presentation offered prayers for the new President, Prime Minister, Moses Nagamootoo, and the yet to be sworn-in Cabinet members.
The vocal pastor reminded supporters that this victory was not their’s but rather that “it is of God.”
She added that pressure would now be placed on the leaders to deliver on their promises while urging the supporters to pray continuously for them.
A rice farmer who would only give her name as Mrs Moore, spoke of her desire to see an elimination of the prolonged issue of late payments to rice farmers by millers. She also highlighted the need for jobs especially for youths who would have completed their secondary education.
Moore said that her family owns some 21 acres of rice lands and they were forced to rent the lands because they were not being paid promptly. Her family is now contemplating changing their focus to cash crops.
Former Deputy Regional Chairman, Mary Williams, who served during the periods of 1981-1985, says she would like to see the construction of proper roads, especially at Mainstay and the resuscitation of the pine factory in her area. Williams is also calling for an upgrade in the Education system in Region Two.
Teacher Chenille Bowen also had to voice her desire which is to see opportunities being made available for persons to venture into small businesses such as cook shops. She also stressed the need for tertiary institutions to be established in the Region and the opening of more jobs for the youth.
A motorcade to celebrate the new APNU+AFC Government will be undertaken on a date to be announced.
