Chronicle Sports reporter Calvin Roberts was laid to rest yesterday after a moving Service at the GNIC ground which was conducted by Pastor Rock.
The body of Roberts left the Meriman’s funeral Parlor just after mid-day and remained for viewing at the Woolford Avenue ground until 16:00hrs before passing in front of his home in Rasville. His internment took place at the LeRenpentir Cemetery.
The late Roberts died at the Davis Memorial Hospital on April 28 at age 43 and his Sports Editor at the GNNL Leon Horatio delivered the Eulogy and tributes were given by his long time friend and Media Colleague Sean Devers, Avinash Ramzan who represented the Guyana Media team of which Roberts was the captain, long time friend Gavin Hope, Digicel’s Events Manager.
Among those present yesterday among the large turnout to bid him farewell were his parents, his two sons, his two sisters, his brother, his wife and other family members.
Secretary of the GCB Anand Sanasie, former West Indies pacer Colin Stuart, National team Coach Esuan Crandon, several former Guyana cricketers, staff member from the four daily Newspapers and members of Calvin’s Church were also among those present.
A bat arch was formed by the Media Team players as he was taken to the Hearse.
