An East La Penitence home, valued at $2.2M, was recently donated to Alfred Rogers and Brenda Nurse by Gafsons Industries Limited, in an effort to improve the lives of the visually impaired couple.
Both Rogers and his spouse are sufferers of glaucoma, with the former being legally blind for 10 years and Nurse being blind for seven years. The couple claimed they had been suffering in their old wooden structure for some time as it was “uneven and shaky”. They said that there would be times when they were afraid their home would collapse.
The couple subsequently approached the owner of Gafsons, Sattaur Gafoor for assistance in repairing their dilapidated wooden abode. In relating the story of their proposal, Nurse said that the couple was very nervous because without the help of Gafoor they feared they would have to “go on the streets to beg and try to repair the house.”
According to Nurse, when they asked for the company owner’s assistance, the estimated cost was seen as very expensive, with the businessman deciding that it would be more prudent to build a new home.
On the day the couple received the keys to their new home, Nurse said “I feel bubbled up inside. Words cannot express my joy.”
Meanwhile, her spouse said that it was like “a dream come through” for the couple to receive the newly constructed and safe home.
Over the years Gafsons Limited has built several homes for persons in difficult circumstances, supporting numerous charitable causes.
