One week after he was struck down by a speeding motorist, 26-year- old Marlon Marks is counting his lucky stars after he was discharged from the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
Marks of Howes and Russell Streets, Albouystown was hit by a motorcar on Middle Road, La Penitence and instead of being rushed to receive medical treatment, the badly injured father of one was dumped near the Le Repentir Cemetery by the said driver that struck him down.
The incident occurred two Saturdays ago.
Marks, a Mayor and City Council (M&CC) employee suffered a fractured skull, dislocated shoulder, broken leg and other internal injuries and is now at home recovering.
Kaieteur News understands that the driver was reckless when he slammed into Marks who was riding a bicycle.
Marks’s grandmother, Latanjan Hercules told this publication that her grandson left her residence to accompany his younger sister to a nearby shop on his bicycle.
After returning with his sister, he then left to carry on with his other errands.
The woman related that less than an hour after Marks left, some boys from the neighbourhood came to her home and informed her of the accident. “Half an hour after he left, some boys come run and tell we look he just get lick down.”
Williams stated that after she got the news, she and other family members rushed to the hospital where they saw Marks in a bloodied state.
According to eyewitnesses, the driver attempted to flee the scene but was stopped by irate civilians who demanded that he transport the injured man to the hospital.
The car which was supposedly headed to the hospital was trailed by several men on bicycles; however they were unable to keep up.
After following the car’s route, they later discovered that the victim was abandoned on Cemetery Road, while the driver was nowhere to be found.
The men then solicited a taxi which transported the injured man to the hospital.
However, according to reports, a broken piece of the car’s number plate was left at the scene. The police have taken possession of it in an effort to locate the driver.
Marks’ relatives have commended the doctors at the GPHC for swiftly attending to him.
