The organizing committee of May Day Cup 2015, “FRIENDS OF THE PPP/C”
was able to secure sponsorship for the combined Upper Corentyne and Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club Team to enable them to participate in the upcoming mega fundraiser to be played under lights at the historic Albion Sports Complex. The sponsor is Mr Vishwan Persaud Baichan, Sawmiller and Sand and Stone Dealer of Crabwood Creek, Corentyne. Proceeds from this event will go towards to PPP/C to assist with their election campaign 2015 and beyond and is expected to be done annually.
Four exciting teams from the county of Berbice namely West Berbice, New Amsterdam/Canje, Lower Corentyne and Upper Corentyne/RHTY&SC will be competing for bragging rights. The matches will be of 15 overs aside with two semi finals and a grand final with the winner taking home a trophy and $100,000, the runner up $50,000 and the two losing semi finalist $25,000 each. The man of the match will also receive a trophy and $10,000 cash. The big game under floodlights will see arch rivals Berbice clashing with Demerara in a T20 game with the winner collecting a trophy and $200,000, man of the match a trophy and $20,000 and the loser $100,000. Several top national and international players will be on show. Several gate prizes for the fans will be up for grabs and games for the young and the old will be there.
Following the cricket, Shakti’s Strings will provide life entertainment for the entire family in a big after party lime. Crown Vibes International will provide the music. This mega event will be held at the historic Albion Sports Complex on Saturday May 2, 2015 from 10:00am and is expected to be an annual fundraiser. Tickets will be $1,000 all day with kids under 12 free.
At a simple presentation ceremony, Mahendra Persaud Baichan, son of sponsor said that his father is happy to assist with the sponsorship of the team and is happy to give back to the community. He said that he is in full support of the event and praised the initiative. Accepting the cheque on behalf of the organizers, Vicky Bharosay, representing the committee thanked the sponsor under the banner VP Baichan and Sons for coming on board and promised that the tournament will be well run. He said that the sponsorship includes providing uniforms for the team, assist with preparations leading up to the event and provide refreshments and meals for the team on the day of the match.
