– continues preparation for CBC 2015
The Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) has finalised plans for the National Senior Male Basketball team to tour Suriname during May 1-4 for a three-game Basketball Challenge Series at the Anthony Nesty Indoor Stadium.
The 17-man Guyanese contingent will depart for Suriname at 2am on Friday, May 1 and return to Guyana on Monday May 4. Twelve players will be selected on Sunday from the current squad in training under Coach Darcel Harris with the other five members of the touring contingent set to include Coaches, managers and a referee.
“Guyana and Suriname are slotted in the same group for the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) Championships, other teams in the Group are: Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, with Bermuda rounding out the five team grouping. The two top teams in the group will qualify for the Final Four,” GABF President, Nigel Hinds said.
“The GABF arranged tour to Suriname is part of the continued preparation of the Guyana teams’ participation in the 2015 CBC Championships, scheduled for Tortola, British Virgin Islands in June,” he continued.
The GABF recently hosted Bermuda Men’s Basketball Team in March; Guyana defeated the higher ranked Bermuda team in all three games with two of the games being decided in the final minutes.
According to Hinds, the federation is currently seeking funding from Government, the Corporate Community and Guyana Olympic Association to assist in funding the Guyana Men and Women National Basketball Teams to the 2015 CBC Championships, which is the pinnacle basketball event for CARICOM territories.
