The Indian Government has donated $10M to the Guyana Elections Commission
(GECOM) to help with its voter education programme.
GECOM yesterday said that it has received a contribution from the High Commission of India in recognition of the “indefatigable work” being done for the professional, free, fair and transparent conduct of the May 11 General and Regional Elections.
The High Commissioner of India to Guyana, V. Mahalingam, recently presented a cheque for $10.25M to Chief Election Officer, Keith Lowenfield.
“This contribution will be utilized by GECOM in aspects of its Civic and Voter Education programme. Moreover, it will be used to ensure that adequate provisions are in place during the elections to facilitate persons living with disabilities, and for activities associated with Polling Day itself.”
The High Commissioner of India was accompanied by his Second Secretary (Political, Culture, Information, Consular and Head of Chancery), S.M. Joshi.
