The Albion Cricket Ground, venue of the first ever one day international cricket match in the Caribbean would come alive tomorrow when the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club hosts the final of the 11th edition of the Busta Champion of Champions tournament.
Old rivals Albion Community Centre and Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets would face off in the 40-overs mach which bowls off at 15:00hrs. It would be the first time that the finals of this tournament would be played under lights.
According to Secretary/CEO of the host club, Hilbert Foster has disclosed special arrangements are being made to have the pitch and bowlers run up properly covered to make sure that rain does not affect the start of the game.
The match is expected to be a keen contest with both teams strong on paper. However, Albion would start as slight favorites at home where it is very difficult to defeat them. Never being able to put their hand on the champion’s trophy in its history, Albion will be looking to go all the way this time around and will would be led by West Indies left arm spinner, Verasammy Permaul with support from discarded West Indies middle order batsman Narsingh Deonarine.
Their powerful batting line up would also include national players Jonathan Foo, Anthony Bramble and the promising Kandasammy Surujnarine, Sharaz Ramcharran, David Latchya and Adrian Sukhwa.
Their bowling which is spin based centers around Permaul, off spinners Narsingh Deonarine, Ramcharran, Latchya and Foo with support from West Indies Under-19 left arm spinner Gudakesh Motie.
RHT Gizmos & Gadgets challenge will be led by former national Under-19 Captain, Shawn Perriera and his deputy, West Indies Test player Assad Fudadin. West Indies T20 player Christopher Barnwell who has been a registered member of the club since 2014 would also be a key player for the defending champions.
Fudadin, Barnwell, Akshay Homraj, Vidal Crandon, Delbert Hicks, Shawn Perriera and Renwick Batson would be the key batsmen if the visitors are to post a challenging total on a pitch that is expected to be full of moisture due to excessive rainfall over the past week.
Barnwell along with medium pacers Keon Sinclair, Fudadin and Sherain Murray are all expected to enjoy the conditions as will off spinners Collis Butts, Troy Mathieson and leg spinner Perriera.
Tomorrow’s winner will receive $100,000 and the Busta Trophy with the loser collecting half that amount and a trophy. The player-of-the-final will earn $10,000 and a trophy.
