Dear Editor,
Most of the clubs that fall under the aegis of the Pomeroon Cricket Committee including myself were stunned when it was confirmed that I was banned from contesting the elections of the Pomeroon Cricket Committee which was held on 2015-04-06.The reason given was that I had organized disapproved cricket in the Pomeroon and as a result it was not in keeping with the WICB regulations according to a WICB Director, even though I have not breached the constitution of the Pomeroon Cricket Committee.
It must be noted that very few competitions are played in the Pomeroon because of the lack of sponsorship and the poor functioning of the Committee. In view of this and for the love of the game, I have been using my own resources to ensure that some degree of sports is available to keep our sportsmen active. I have organized numerous one-day cricket events in the past and I was never sanctioned before. In fact officials of the Pomeroon Cricket Committee always supported the events including the clubs.
On 2015-04-06 the Committee held its AGM which was overdue and I had indicated my interest to contest for the Chairmanship due to the overwhelming support that I had received from the Pomeroon Community. Notably present were Mr. Fizul Bacchus, Vice President of the GCB and Mr. Anand Sanasie, Secretary and WICB Director. Before the commencement of the meeting, I was emphatically told by Mr. Bacchus that I cannot participate in the AGM because I have been banned. It was then that Mr. Sanasie elaborated on the issue and disclosed that I have to obtain approval from the West Indies Cricket Board to sanction any such cricket. Mr. Sanasie was very firm in hammering in the point to the gathering as well as supporting me being banned.
While his explanation can be viewed as official, being a Director of the WICB, it is inconceivable that I was only told of this on the morning of the AGM. I believe that it was a deliberate act to remove me from challenging the incumbent even though cricket in the Pomeroon is at its lowest ebb and there is very little representation for the players. I have observed that there are a number of competitions that are being organized by persons across Guyana. Have they been sanctioned by Mr. Sanasie?
I am challenging him therefore to set the record straight since I am of the conviction that he along with Mr. Bacchus had manipulated the process and found a way of denying me the right to participate in the Pomeroon Cricket Committee’s AGM. Not surprisingly, Mr. Bacchus was returned unopposed with the full backing from the WICB Director.
