Incumbent President Bradley Fredericks was re-elected to serve another
term as President unopposed as the Upper Demerara Cricket Association held its Annual General Meeting last Saturday at Hymara Park.
Eight of the fourteen clubs were present thus forming a quorum giving way for elections.
Bradley Fredericks in giving his remarks said that the Upper Demerara Cricket Association is on the threshold of breaking new ground because it is now the fifth arm of the Demerara Cricket Board and he urged all the clubs to pay up their affiliation fees in order to get more programmes up and running.
Fredericks said, “Cricketers in the Upper Demerara Area were left to fend for themselves and members felt let down and the clubs had no money to run off competitions, we had to seek donations to run off a couple. I had hoped that 2014 would have been a prosperous year but it wasn’t so much but now that we are the legal body I know 2015 would be a better year.”
According to Fredericks the UDCA is a registered member of the Friendly Society Act and therefore it is a certified Cricket Association which will be governed by the Demerara Cricket Board and it is the only Association identified to represent Cricket in Region Ten.
“UDCA has created history because this is the first meeting of the legal body, we are legal to receive money from the DCB and the GCB.”
He also noted that any cricket played in the Region must be sanctioned by the Association and he intends to keep the clubs in the fold in the interest of cricket.
The re-elected President of the UDCA thanked the clubs for having faith in him and hopes that they all work together to make cricket a success and to bring development to the game.
Newly elected Vice President Andrew Forsythe said that he is pleased to be a part of the Association for only one reason. “MY love for the game” and assured the gathering that cricket would move to a higher level under this new executive.
The new executive body is President – Bradley Fredericks, Vice President – Andrew Forsythe, Secretary – Eutol Wilson, Asst. Secretary – Noreen Whyte who was former Treasurer, Treasurer – Victor Persaud, Asst. Treasurer – Ray Peters and PRO – Jacquey Bourne. The Returning Officer was Mr. Ronald Williams.
The President said that the members of the committees will be elected at the first members meeting. (Jacquey Bourne)
