Skipper Ronaldo Ali Mohamed slammed an unbeaten half century, but rain interrupted Demerara’s reply
when the third and final round of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB)/Raj Singh Insurance Brokers inter-county U19 three day tournament continued yesterday at Everest Cricket Club.
The entire first session was lost due to overnight and morning showers, but when play got underway at 12:32 hrs, the U17s skipper Mohamed who resumed on 42 and Tameshwar Motiram added 40 for the last wicket to prop up their team’s total. Mohamed timed the ball well and played some handsome shots especially square off the wicket off the back foot. He drove pacer Carlton Jacques to the point boundary to bring up his half century off 90 balls. He then smashed Sherfene Rutherford through cover before left arm spinner Askhaya Persaud (1-28) uprooted the stumps of Motiram (03) as the U17 team were bowled out for 251 after facing 111.4 overs. Mohamed, who struck nine fours, ended on 69. Rutherford was the pick of the bowlers with 4-30, while Ershad Alli had 3-26 and Malcolm Hubbard 2-28.
Demerara openers Rutherford and Ronaldo Renee posted 52 for the opening stand before a heavy shower at the tea interval prevented further play due to damp spots on the pitch.
Rutherford stroked the ball nicely and hit four fours to remain on 30 while Renee is on 17 (1×4). Today is the final day and play is expected to start at 09:30 hrs. (Zaheer Mohamed).
