A 40-year-old Good Hope, East Coast Demerara resident was remanded on four charges yesterday in connection with the death last Tuesday of 33-year-old Vanessa Forde at Stewartville, West Coast Demerara.
Nizam Bacchus was charged with causing death by dangerous driving; failing to stop after an accident, failing to render assistance and for driving an uncertified motor vehicle.
The charges were read to him in the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court. The Lot 464, Good Hope accused is to return to court on May 8.
According to reports, Forde was standing on the West Coast Demerara Public Road near Stewartville last Tuesday night when a car, allegedly driven by Bacchus, struck her down. She was hurled into a trench and later pronounced dead on arrival at the West Demerara Regional Hospital.
The driver allegedly fled the scene but was subsequently arrested.
