Austin to fight Dorway for Light Middleweight title
By Sean Devers
Plenty of fistic fury is expected to be unleashed in the Mining town of Linden on Saturday May 30th
when the McKenzie Sports Club ground is expected to come alive with the staging of a mouthwatering boxing feast called ‘East versus West in the North’ – Boxing after Dark and admission for Ringside is $1,500 while entry to the Stands will Cost $1,000.
Under the banner of the Pocket Rocket Promotions, the Mark DeFreitas Production will feature the Main bout for the Light Middleweight title of Guyana over 12 rounds between Gladwin Dorway and Mark Austin.
This is a highly anticipated re-match between the two pugilists after they went after each other in April off 2013 at the Princess Hotel when Austin drew first blood.
In February of this year Austin, was rushed to the Georgetown Hospital after he mysteriously collapsed in the dressing room less than fifteen minutes before his scheduled bout against Dexter Gonsalves in an eight-round Junior Welterweight match-up, after he allegedly encountered problems making the required weight one day earlier and swallowed a tablet to assist him in shedding the excessive poundage.
Dorway is no pushover and will be nurturing ambitions of reinstating himself on the local scene after his lopsided loss to Austin the last time they met at the Princess Hotel.
In the main supporting bout Lindeners Sharon ‘Stone’ Ward and Avlon Scotland will go head-to-head over four rounds in a ladies encounter, while Orlon Rogers will battle Dillon Allicock over six rounds and in another rematch Keeve Allicock matches skills with Quincy Gomes over six rounds. In the fifth fight of what promises to be an exciting night, Kelsey George will go toe to toe with Romeo Norville in a six-rounder.
In addition to four Amateur fights involving boxers from Berbice, Linden and Georgetown, the night’s event will also feature a dance off by X-Factor 2 from Linden.
