Alpha ‘The Hammer’ United FC Coach, Wayne ‘Wiggy’ Dover indicated yesterday that his side will take this leg of the Caribbean Football Union 2015 Club Championship, which kicks off this afternoon at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, one game at a time.
Speaking to the media at a briefing at the Water Chris Hotel, Waterloo Street, Dover said he expects his players to be focused, serious and give a good account of themselves and set the tone for the rest of the competition with the ultimate result, qualifying for the next round.
Taking into account their loss to Slingerz FC in the final of the Kashif and Shanghai football tournament recently, Dover noted that the team would have made two errors and lacked in the finishing department which proved costly. The Coach said, in games against opposition similar in strength there is no room for mistakes.
He stated that following that defeat they have been working on those areas of concern and will be coming prepared and looking for a victory. Dover called on the fans to come out and throw their support behind the team as they look for a positive start.
It came out at the briefing that there was no scouting done on their opponents of late, the teams having met three years ago, so it will be a feeling out process initially and capatilising on any mistakes. The Surinamese officials present, Ywunen Vallei a defence player and Humphrey Dundas, Communication Manager, echoed similar sentiments. They plan to not take Alpha lightly and will look for a favourable result.
Admission to the venue is $1,000 anywhere and $3,000 for VIP, while children will be admitted free. The match kicks off at 16:00hrs.
