Berbice romped to a 216-run victory over Demerara in the second round of the
Guyana Cricket Board (GCB)/Raj Singh Insurance Brokers Inter County Under-19 three-day tournament yesterday at the Georgetown Cricket Club gourd, Bourda.
Needing a further 227 with two wickets in hand, Demerara resumed their second innings on 71-8 and were bowled out for 81 after facing just 2.3 overs in the day. The host may have ruined their decision to promote their lower order ahead of the more accomplished batsmen earlier in the innings, and this contributed significantly to their down fall.
After play commenced one hour late due to seepages on the pitch, Sherfene Rutherford punched pacer Gersean Grant for fours before he was dropped in the same over. However he failed to capitalize and was bowled by off-spinner Balchand Baldeo as he attempted to slog him over mid-wicket; he went for 13.
Grant then had Daniel Basdeo (03) caught at second slip in the next over to wrap things up. Grant finished with 4-13 and Baldeo 3-20 while there was a wicket each for Daniel Lewis, Kassim Khan and Leon Andrews.
Hetmyer was named man-of-the-match for his century in Berbice second innings. Scores: Berbice 199 and 250 beat Demerara 152 and 81. (Zaheer Mohamed)
