Dear Editor,
It has been brought to my attention there are individuals on the recent published lists of candidates who potentially could to be members of Guyana National Assembly, if selected by the various criteria of the political parties who submit the names.
According to TITLE 2 PARLIAMENT (Disqualifications for elections as members) ARTICLE 155 (1), no person shall be qualified for selection as a member of the National Assembly who:
(a) Is, by virtue of his own act, under any acknowledgement of allegiance, obedience or adherence to a foreign power or state:
The dilemma is we cannot as a means of knowingly and intentionally upon convenience, be speaking about a commitment to follow the rule of law in one volume of air intake, and in the immediate and subsequent air intake volume which is completely confounded with being potential members of our Parliament, who need to set examples for all Guyanese to uphold the law, by some mystery, find refuge under an extremely fragile and porous carpet, as rule of law violators.
So those on the lists who have foreign passports, not only should you examine your inner character or teacher, consult with the model relative to your self-serving role at the moment to your constituents, and to a wider extension the people of Guyana, then you should be ashamed of your selves, and no doubt would find that courage do the right thing, follow our Constitution.
