The Cricket Development Committee of the Rose Hall Town Youth and
Sports Club in its continuing efforts to improve the skills of its young cricketers would be hosting a two weeks Easter Holiday Cricket Development Camp for 30 young players. The camp started on Tuesday at the Area ‘H’ Ground and is being conducted by cricket coach Delbert Hicks, who is also a former junior and senior Guyana cricketer.
Club Secretary/CEIO Hilbert Foster stated that the RHTYSC in 2015 is placing special development of its junior cricketers from the Under 13 to Under 19 levels. This is being done as the RHTYSC seeks to maintain its status as one of Guyana’s leading cricket clubs. The camp is being attended by young members of the club who are not attending extra lessons, classes or have work commitments and Foster expressed confidence that they would benefit from the exercise.
Emphasis is being placed on getting them physically fit and improving their batting, bowling and fielding skills. The Educational Committee of the RHTYSC would also be working along with the players to improve their knowledge of the game and to get them to understand their duties as a role model and a sports ambassador of the club. Foster, urged the young cricketers to develop a culture of discipline, hard work, dedication and respect for others if they want to succeed in life. He cautioned them that the RHTYSC would not tolerate indiscipline, lack of respect for Management or players who are not willing to develop themselves by listening to the advice of senior players. He advised them that senior players like Assad Fudadin, Royston and Esuan Crandon, Shemaine Campbelle and Erva Giddings achieved success by dedicating themselves to the game.
Coach Delbert Hicks expressed confidence that the two weeks camp would be a success and that each of the players would not only represent the RHTYSC with distinction but would go on to play for Berbice, Guyana and the West Indies. Hicks, who still plays first division cricket with the club’s Gizmos and Gadgets team, stated that he is impressed with the attitude and commitment of the players.
Is this oil a blessing or a curse?
