Spinners Jospice Jones and Avin Gangadin shared eight wickets between them
to inspire Demerara to a 59-run victory over the visiting New York Cricket Academy (NYCA) in their Under-15 fixture yesterday at the Demerara Cricket Club.
Chasing 145, the visitors were sent packing for 85 as Jones and Gangadin captured four wickets each for 11 and 14 runs respectively. Aman Patel and Nankishore Dass added 33 for the opening stand to give the tourist a fair start before Patel was dismissed without scoring.
Dass who struck two fours in scoring 19 and Sanjay Jonathan Stanley who top scored with 21 (2×4) took the score to 52 with level-headed batting in hazy conditions. However, the introduction of spin proved fatal for the visitors, after Dass and Stanley were removed in quick succession, the rest of the batting failed to show any resistance as they were bowled out in 29 overs. Extras contributed 25; Jones finished with 4-11 and Gangadin 4-14 off six overs each.
Earlier, Ashmead Nedd cracked four fours in scoring 38 not out to lead the home team batting after the game was reduced to 30 overs due to rain. Nedd shared in a fourth wicket stand of 60 with Alphius Bookie who hit a run a ball 21.
This was after openers Robin Williams and Sachin Singh added 63 for the first wicket to give their team a bright start. Williams struck four fours and one six in 31 while Singh made 15; Demerara lost four wickets when their innings expired. Michael Katwaroo claimed 3-25 off six overs.

Then the sixth and final round will be played on Sunday. The visitors will take on East Bank U-18 at Demerara Cricket Club, Guyana U-15 at the Police Sports Club ground and Bel Air Rubix U-13 at the Ogle Community Centre ground. (Zaheer Mohamed)
