A Ramnaresh Sarwan led Meten-Meer-Zorg West/Barakat X1 defeated Young Warriors of Berbice by one wicket in a T20 fixture Sunday last at Meten-Meer-Zorg ground, West Coast Demerara.
The host decision to insert their guest paid off as Young Warriors struggled throughout the power play, only managing 36-3. But, Kevin Ramdeen struck a polished 41 which included two fours and two sixes, and along with Joemal La Fleur who scored 30 with five fours added respectability to the total before they were bowled out for 123 in 19.5 overs.
Medium pacer Trevor Benn was the pick of the bowlers with 4 for 26 while Sheldon Alexander supported with 3 for 19. Although not picking up a wicket Sarwan bowled economically conceding 13 from three overs of leg spin.
Kevon Boodie and Kemol Savory featured in a fifth wicket stand of 39 after the home team lost some early wickets in reply. After hitting four fours, Boodie was bowled by the lively Niall Smith for 35 with the score on 78, but Savory carried his bat, smashing three fours and a similar number of sixes in an even half century to see his team home; ending on 128-9 in 19.5 overs. Smith snared 3-26, while La Fleur, Suresh Dhanai, Shawn Pereira and Kassim Khan had one each.
Savory copped the man of the match and the best batsman trophies; Trevor Benn was given the best bowler prize. Meten-Meer-Zorg West/Barakat X1 collected $50,000 and the Odyssey Transport trophy, while Young Warriors received $15, 000 and the Barakat Brothers trophy.
