Fielding more than one team -The Port Mourant Training Centre (PMTC) Yellow on Thursday last played unbeaten to win the first place trophy when the Berbice Volleyball Association held their Annual Inter- School Volleyball Competition at the Port Mourant Training Centre Court on the Corentyne.
The competition, which was postponed on several occasions due to rain and other constraints was played in blistering sunshine in a two best of three 20 points format and attracted four teams.
The PMTC Yellow and J.C Chandisingh (JCCSS) reached the finals with PMTC emerging victorious winning 2-0 with the scores being 20-15, 20-16.
In the preliminary matches JCCSS defeated Corentyne Comprehensive High School (CCHS) 20-14, 15-20,20-8; PMTC Red lost to JCCSS 10-20,18-20.PMTC Yellow defeated PMTC Red 20-11,20-14 and CCHS 20-8,20-15 while CCHS defeated PMTC Red 20-19,20-19.
At the presentation ceremony held after the final, BVA Vice President and Competition Co-ordinator, Godwyn Allicock congratulated the winners and thanked all the teams for participating in the competition. He however expressed his disappointment with the response of schools but emphasized that volleyball must be promoted. He urged the players to continue to practice in order to improve their basic skills. Allicock also thanked the Management of PMTC for making their facilities available.
Trophies and medals were presented to the top two teams, while and the outstanding individual’s players. The first place trophy donated by the National Sport Commission was presented to PMTC Yellow, while second placed JCCSS received a trophy from the BVA.
Most Valuable Player (MVP) trophy went to Joshua Jagmohan of PMTC Yellow, while Ravi Rampertab of PMTC Yellow received the Best Setter medal and Videshwar Mangroo of JCCSS received the Most Promising Player medal.
