Police on the East Coast of Demerara are still waiting on a positive identification of a woman whose dismembered body was discovered on the Annandale Foreshore last Thursday.
The remains are being stored at a city mortuary and investigators are hoping to ascertain the woman’s identity so that a post mortem examination can be performed.
The woman’s body minus the head, feet and arms, was discovered around 06:30 hours by a resident who was about to bathe his dog at the location.
An alarm was raised and scores of residents including schoolchildren, flocked to the scene to get a glimpse of the body which bore signs of a sexual assault.
There were bloodstains and tooth fragments not far from where the body was lodged between the rocks, and investigators believe that they belong to the victim.
“We have taken samples of the blood on the ground and we hope to have it analysed,” a police official on the East Coast of Demerara told this newspaper.
Kaieteur News understands that the hands bore multiple chops, as if to suggest that the woman was trying to bar her face from being hacked.
“As to the face, oh God, you wouldn’t want to see it,” the detective declared.
