The 2015 New Building Society Limited Second Division Cricket Competition for teams in Berbice commenced last weekend. Results from two matches so far show, Fort Canje Warriors and Young Warriors Cricket Club emerged winners.
At the Rose Hall Community Centre in East Canje, the home team won the toss and batted first against Young Warriors Cricket Club. They struggled to 123 all out in 33 of their allotted 40 overs. Andre Grant top scored with 30 after being hit in the chest by pacer Jermin Henry. He was supported by Kristoff Bahadur and Khemraj Dyal with 20 and 18 respectively. Bowling for YWCC, Jermin Henry took 3 for 24, Berbice under 17 all rounder Kassim Khan 3 for 25, and veteran former Berbice all rounder Anil Beharry 2 for 30, all off 8 overs.
Young Warriors in reply also struggled to the target losing 7 wickets reaching there in 34 overs. Mortimer Fraser batted through the innings to be unbeaten on 56 consisting of 1 four and 1 six. Rose Hall captain Ameer Rahaman took 3 wickets for 20 runs off 8 overs.
Over at the Cumberland ground, Guyana Eagles CC lost to Fort Canje Warriors by 6 wickets. They won the toss and made a challenging 161 all out in 39 overs. I. Ramsarran topscored with 38 and was supported by R. Fredricks with 27 and C. Grimmond 26. Bowling for Fort Canje, former national youth all rounder Linden Austin took 4 for 24 off 8 overs. Royden Phil took 2 for 27.
Fort Canje in reply scored rapidly to reach their target in 28 overs with former senior national player and veteran Hubern Evans 42 n.o with 6 fours. Royden Phil returned to score 41 off 16 balls (6×4 and 2×6) and former national youth player Balram Samaroo 30. C. Grimmond took 2 for 22.
