Score’s Even, owned and trained by Dennis DeRoop of the Simple Royal Stable and ridden by Rad Dreapul, proved that it is the best racehorse in Guyana. The Grey Gelding yesterday defeated a top notch field at the Port Mourant Turf Club to win the feature A and lower 1600M event at the “Clash of the Titans” horserace meet which was organised by the Four Horsemen Promotion.
In a ding dong duel with C.P Got Even of the Elcock Stable with Randolph Richmond on the perch, the ‘big grey’ rode away with the $1.2M winner’s money and the Banks DIH Limited Trophy.
There were some setbacks before the race began as Curfew Tower got injured and had to pull out of the event. The atmosphere was tense as the jam packed arena sought every available space to view the event. Away the animals went with the eight year old 1000 pound Score’s Even, with a further 136 weight on its back taking the lead early and being hard pressed by C.P Got Even. The two animals continued the battle until the homestretch when Score Even was able to pull away.
CP Got Even came in second with Run Nana Run third and Lady Budapest fourth. Top horse Treacle suffered a setback during the race and finished down the pack.
Other results of the day showed Storm Bird storming away to a convincing win in the Three Year Old & WI Bred horses race to claim $400,000.
Swing Easy, racing past its opponents down the homestretch, took the D3 Maiden & WI Bred event and the $400,000 purse.
The G1 and Lower race and the $320,000 was won by Quiet Dancer. Chelsea took care of business in the G3 Maiden and H and Lower event and the $300,000 prize.
The Three Year Old WI Bred race saw Mary Ann winning the $300,000. Red Jet won the J3 event, while Royal Cash ran away with the J1 race. The champion jockey was Rad Drepaul.
Score’s Even is expected to be back in action on Easter Sunday at the Jumbo Jet Guyana Cup Fever meet.
