Several ranks of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) commenced internal
security training in anticipation of General Elections scheduled for May 11.
The training was held at the Inter-Services Institute of Internal Security Studies and was hosted by the GDF.
The three disciplined services GDF, Guyana Police Force and the Guyana Fire Service provided the training instructors.
According to a press release, the training is aimed at the middle and lower levels of the services and highlights the command junior officers must possess should certain internal security scenarios arise. During the training, ranks were briefed on regulations, laws and procedures and gained a deeper understanding about their specific roles in internal security operations.
Following the training, there will also be debriefing sessions and participants can share experiences, observations and also formulate recommendations.
According to the release, at the end of the training the ranks would have fully assimilated their legal obligations and procedures when performing patrolling, road blocks, crowd dispersal and cordon/searches.
