The curtains come down on the 2014 Goodwood Racing Service 40-over competition on Sunday at the Bayroc ground in Linden. Fourteen teams started the tournament in 2014 which was badly affected by inclement weather, resulting in this late conclusion to the signature competition for cricket on the East Bank of Demerara.
After a low scoring semi-final at the Bayroc ground, the home team squeezed past North Soesdyke Sports Club by four wickets while Laluni Sports Club made full use of their home advantage to beat Ruimveldt Sports Club in a hard fought match.
Laluni Sports Club’s victory by four wickets set up this much anticipated final against the confident Bayroc Sports Club in the Bauxite Mining Town. The first ball will be bowled at 11:00hrs following which, members and other executives of the East Bank Demerara Cricket Association and representatives of Goodwood Racing Service will be on hand for the presentation of prizes.
The umpires for the match will be Flemroy Lambert and Zaheer Mohamed. The winning team will take home some spectacular silverware and $20,000 while the runner up will walk away with a trophy and $15,000. The man of the match in the final will get a trophy and $5,000.
