Guyana’s leading Club side, Alpha United has been selected by the Caribbean Football Union as one of four clubs that will host preliminary round (group) matches in the 2015 CFU Club Championship, which is the official qualifying tournament for the 2015/2016 CONCACAF Champions League.
The second club from Guyana contesting the championship, Guyana Defence Force (GDF) has been drawn in Group 11 that will be hosted by T&T side DirectTV W Connection.
The CFU, through General Secretary Damien Hughes informed the clubs of the selection to host matches and the official groupings.
A total of fifteen (15) amateur and professional Clubs from across the CFU will participate in the tournament which is anticipated to be highly competitive.
According to the CFU, as a reflection of the rich diversity of the CFU, the host Clubs, and by extension, the host countries, are a microcosm of the different languages, cultures and peoples that make up the CFU.
The following Clubs and cities have been confirmed by the CFU Executive as hosts for the Preliminary Round of the 2015 CFU Club Championship:
Group 1 – Alpha United FC, Georgetown, Guyana
Group 2 – DirectTV W Connection, Couva, Trinidad & Tobago
Group 3 – America Football Club, Cayes, Haiti
Group 4 – Don Basco, Petion Ville, Haiti
The Four Groups in the Preliminary Round will be played simultaneously from 13 – 20 April 2015, while the Final Round will be played 20 – 25 May 2015 in a straight Knock-Out Format in order to crown a Champion for the 2015 CFU Club Championship and also secure the three Caribbean berths to the CONCACAF Champions League.
GROUP I TEAMS – Alpha United FC (GUY), Central FC (TRI), Inter Moengotapoe (SUR).
GROUP II TEAMS – DirectTV W Connection FC (TRI), SAP FC (ATG), Guyana Defence Force (GUY), Waterhouse FC (JAM).
GROUP III TEAMS – America FC (HAI), Montego Bay United FC (JAM), SV Excelsior (SUR), Club Sportif (GLP).
GROUP IV TEAMS – Don Bosco FC de Petion Ville (HAI), Helenites Sporting Club (VIR), Unite Sainte Rose (GLP), Lyford Cay FC (BAH).
The respective Group winners will advance to the Final Phase.
