Another sponsor has renews its commitment to Berbice cricket. That sponsor is no
other than the Berbice River Bridge who has renewed their sponsorship of the 50 overs first division cricket competition for teams in Berbice. Albion Cricket Club is the defending champion and will again start as favorites to retain the title.
Speaking on behalf of the Bridge Company, Bibi Faneza Ally, Administrative Assistant said that her company is happy to renew this relationship with the board. She added that they were pleased with the media coverage given last year and the smoothness in which the competition was conducted. Other than getting people across the Berbice River from D’Edward on the western side and Palmyra on the eastern side, Miss Ally said that the Company is interested in the development of this country and sports, cricket in particular is such an important part of the lives of all Guyanese.
Speaking on behalf of the board, Secretary Angela Haniff thanked the BRB for their continued faith in the board and promised that the competition will be well run. She said also that the Berbice Bridge has brought significant relief and comfort for all businesses and private individuals in this country. She is impressed that despite such an enormous responsibility and role in the development of this country, the BRB sees it fit to make meaningful contributions in the form of charities.
Board President, Anil Beharry, Executive Member Rabindranauth Saywack and Chairman of the Competitions Committee Carl Moore also thanked the BRB and look forward for their continued support. Beharry made mention of all of the sponsors for the year so far, old and new. He thanked Raffik and Sons Construction Services for the 20-over village cricket in the Central/Lower Corentyne area, A Ally and Sons for the Secondary Schools Under-17, Dalchand Rambharose for the Secondary Schools Under-15, Hand in Hand Insurance Company for 40-over village cricket for teams in the West Berbice area and Mukesh Appiah in memory in memory of his father, Ramnarine Appiah 20-over cricket for second division teams in the East Bank/New Amsterdam/East Canje/No 19 area.
He took the opportunity to thank other stakeholders for helping the board fulfill its mandate with special mention of the support of the print and electronic media.
