A Wofford College graduate and former manager of Radio Shack stores in South Carolina who has built a career as a member of the Senior Foreign Service has been nominated by President Obama to be ambassador to the Co-operative Republic of Guyana.
Perry L. Holloway, of South Carolina, most recently served as Political-Military Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan (2013 – July 2014), according to www.greenvilleonline.com
Holloway is known as a talented leader, consensus builder and manager, with broad, high-level policy experience in Latin America, according to the State Department.
Holloway earned a B.A. in foreign languages from Wofford College; a M.A. in International Business Sciences from the University of South Carolina, and a M.A. in National Resources Strategy from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces in Washington, D.C., according to the State Department.
He is the recipient of three Senior Foreign Service Performance Awards, eight Superior Honor Awards and two Meritorious Awards from the Department of State. He speaks fluent Spanish.
Before joining the Foreign Service, he was a manager of Radio Shack stores in Georgia and South Carolina, according to the State Department.
Holloway would replace Ambassador D. Brent Hardt who ended his duties last year amidst much controversy.
He was criticized by the Government of Guyana for “interfering” in local matters.
