…flees bullet-riddled home with partner, step-child
The prime suspect in Sunday night’s execution style murder of 19-year-old Ryan Sooklall has fled his Lot 41 Norton Street, Bagotstown, East Bank Demerara residence.
Kaieteur News understands that the alleged gunman left his home before riddling Sooklall with bullets at a shop in Parker Street, Providence, East Bank Demerara.
He reportedly took his reputed wife and 13-year-old stepson with him.
When Kaieteur News made checks, the house was shut tight and it was observed that at least ten bullet-impressions were on the outer wall of the eastern bedroom.
Several of the bedroom window panes were shattered.
Earlier reports indicated that the suspect’s house had been the centre of an attack, reportedly by a group of boys, including Sooklall.
Police believe that it was then that the 19-year-old signed his own death warrant.
Around 02:00 hours Sunday morning, the group hurled two ‘channa bombs’ and fired over 20 shots at the suspect’s home while he and his reputed wife were in bed.
The matter was reported at the Providence Police Station.
According to neighbours, the early morning gunfire had roused them from their sleep. They claimed that the men opened fire on the couple’s bedroom and that angered the alleged killer.
Neighbours told Kaieteur News that later that day the suspect was heard
angrily shouting, “I gun kill all of them!”
Residents surmised that he meant the gang who turned up earlier while he was in bed.
According to them, the alleged gunman and victim were close friends who would normally “lime” in the area. They, like residents of Providence, could not fathom what caused the relationship to turn sour.
The 19-year-old was reportedly gunned down around 21:00 hrs on Sunday in a shop in Parker Street, Providence, East Bank Demerara.
Sooklall, called ‘Plyboard’, was shot at least three times in the back and was pronounced dead on arrival at the East Bank Demerara Regional Hospital.
Investigators, too, are convinced that he was killed in retaliation for the ‘channa bomb’ incident. The shop where Sooklall was slain is said to be a popular meeting place for both killer and victim.
According to eyewitnesses, Sooklall and about 10 other youths were at the Providence shop when the killer struck. One eyewitness said the gunman rolled up on his bicycle and finished Sooklall.
Everyone scattered while the teen collapsed in the yard. The alleged gunman fled on the bicycle.
Sooklall was the manager of one of his father’s three lucrative businesses.
