The same three schools, All Saints Primary School, St Theresa Primary, St Aloysius Primary, took the three spots in the same order when the finals of the Hearts of Oak Masters Inter Primary School Football competition
culminated at the All Saints Scott Church Ground on Friday.
All Saints Primary School won both the boys and girls segments when the finals were played. Their victim on both occasions was the St Theresa Primary school. Finishing third in both the boys and girls categories was St Aloysius Primary.
The tournament was the first by the HOAMFC for the 2015 season and was for Primary Schools in the New Amsterdam/ Canje areas.
The girls encounter went down to the wire and after a 0-0 stalemate during full and extra time, it was All Saints Primary that prevail 1-0 from the penalty spot against the unfortunate St Theresa team.
Although the margin of victory in the boy’s game was 2-0 the game was also closely contested with a lot of near misses and good saves. The encounter also saw several talented players being unearthed.
Scoring for All Saints Primary was Ezekiel Hamilton in the first half, while Jarel Fraser netted in the second half for the 2-0 win.
At the presentation ceremony which followed, the winning All Saints Primary school boys and girls teams received trophies and 15 medals each for winning both competitions.
Runner up in both categories St Theresa received trophies. Third place St Aloysius received a trophy for the girls’ competition.
In the individual award category the dominant All Saints Primary walked away with the lion’s share of the prizes. In the boys category -The Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament went to Jarel Fraser, the best goalkeeper on show was Lionel Holligan, while Ezekiel Hamilton took the prize for scoring the most goals. They are all from All Saints Primary. They all received medals compliments of former national player and overseas based Owen “Piggy” Humphrey.
The MVP for girls was Evrigna Mentore of All Saints Primary, the best goalkeeper prize went to Ophella Grant of St Theresa Primary, while Mentore also took the prize for the most goals. They also all received medals compliments of Owen Humphrey.
The most promising player on show was Amare Caesar of All Saint Primary.
The tournament was played over four days. Seven schools were invited to participate in the competition namely- St Aloysius Primary, All Saints, New Amsterdam and St Therese, Overwinning and Lochaber Primaries. Only Fort Ordnance did not participate.
Among the sponsors were Young’s Photo Studio, Shawn Griffith and Former national Player Owen Humphrey.
The tournament was organized and coordinated by Neil ‘Grizzly’ Humphrey of the Heart of Oak Masters Football Club.
