Aruwai Plaza and Resort, Bakewell lend valuable support
The best two surviving teams in the Mayor’s Cup Football Championship will battle tomorrow night for
the top spot and Banks DIH $1M prize money in the final of the Mayor’s Cup football tournament at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) Ground, Bourda.
The two sides overcame semifinal opponents and advanced and known for their impressive styles of play, fans can anticipate an explosive encounter. The third place playoff pits semifinal losers Conquerors and Pele against each other, while an exhibition game to start things off will see Police battle Monedderlust for the Commander Clifton Hicken trophy.
Aruwai Plaza and Resort of Georgetown and Bartica respectively through Proprietor Chuniela Babulall threw their support behind the tournament with the sponsorship of the third prize of $200,000. Bakewell, also offered their support as is customary with football and sport in general, serving up the $100,000 fourth prize. The third prize in the tournament is $300,000.
Coordinator Lennox Arthur thanked the sponsors who have come on board and given extremely valuable support.
Among those sponsors he mentioned are Banks DIH and AH&L Kissoon, Aruwai Plaza and Resort, Bakewell, MACORP, Busta, Sterling Products, John Fernandes, GT&T, TCL, CIDI and the Vieira brothers of Houston. The Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport and Courtney Benn have also chipped in. Ricks and Sari and Keishars have donated hampers for the outstanding performers.
Apart from the prize money there are the individual awards to contend for. The tournament highest goal scorer will take away a 3-piece suite compliments of AH&L Kissoon. Konata Manning (Pele) and Michael Pedro (Western Tigers) are still in with a chance of improving that tally. They both have three. A total 71 goals have been scored to date.
Trophies put up by Alfred King PS Ministry of Sport will go to the MVP and the DeSinco Trading Trophy will be given to the Best Goalkeeper.
Arthur informed that admission is $1,000 for the final and additional chairs will be provided to ensure comfortable seating for fans, while Slingerz sound system will be in the house to entertain patrons.
