With the aim of improving the game in the area, the East Bank Essequibo Cricket Committee (EBECC) has continued its development programme with several training sessions under Coach Vibert Johnson.
Sessions are being held for U-15, U-17 and U-19 cricketers at various venues.
Kaieteur Sport recently caught up with Johnson taking the U-19 players through their paces at Tuschen ground.
Speaking after the session, Johnson said that these clinics are designed to improve the players’ all-round ability and fitness level. “What we find is that some players at the age-group level are only interested when inter county cricket comes around so we saw the need to have a programme to allow continuous cricket and this programme is designed to do same and also facilitate matches,” he added.
Johnson informed that they will also be having exchange programmes. “Teams from other area committees will visit us so we can play home and away matches on a regular basis. This will help to better prepare players for inter county tournaments,” he said.
Johnson is satisfied with the commitment shown. “The players are willing to work hard; I have never seen such enthusiasm so we have to ensure the programme is a continuous one,” the coach explained.
