The nation’s leading cyclists including juniors and veterans are gearing up for Sunday’s two-stage road race that will commemorate the 92nd birth anniversary of former President of Guyana, Linden Forbes
Sampson Burnham.
Organised by the Burnham Foundation in association with the Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF), the first stage of the race will start in the Bauxite Mining Town of Linden from 08:00hrs Sunday next and proceeds to Homstretch Avenue in the City.
The second stage will pedal off later in the day, from 14:30 hrs from Ocean View International Hotel, Liliendaal proceed to Belfield before returning to the opposite end of the starting line for the finish.
Raynauth Jeffrey (2hr 50m 08s) is the defending senior champion while Michael Anthony (2hr 51m 06s) copped the junior segment and Junior Niles (2hr 52m 50s), the veteran. Anthony is now campaigning in the senior ranks which mean a new junior champion will be crowned.
Over 200 thousand dollars will be up for grabs in the race which is anticipated to be very competitive.
