Technical Advisor to the East Bank Football Association (EBFA), Winston Benons yesterday hosted a successful getting to know you and interactive session with Coaches attached to clubs in the association at the Grove Community Centre.
Attending were coaches from Grove Hi Tech, Agricola Red Triangle, Herstelling Raiders, Diamond United, Craig Primary School, Mocha Champs and Kuru Kururu Warriors.
Benons in his presentation told the teachers of the game that among the aims he has for the sport in the association is to see create a developmental programme inclusive of the basic fundamentals that will be are taught to the players at the junior level in setting a solid foundation for the players.
He also noted that player’s rights and safety will be important pillars of the forward thrust for the game.
Benons commented that the afternoon went well with all the Coaches showing enthusiasm and a willingness to work to see the success of the game at the club and association levels.
“The coaches reacted well to the session and were eager to share their own experiences while stating that they are willing to learn and be exposed to more training. I think that this is a good start for the association and we will see a major turnaround in terms of how teaching the players at each club is approached,” Benons shared.
While congratulating the coaches for making the sacrifice to come out and be part of the session in charting a solid course for the game in the association, EBFA Secretary Franklin Wilson encouraged the coaches to be positive role models for their charges on and off the field of play.
Wilson encouraged the participants to form a Coaches Committee in the association and they have taken up the challenge to do so at their next meeting which would be held on a monthly basis.
Benons will shortly commence visits to each of the clubs with a view to further assessing the way things are done. Benons and the EBFA Coaches will be working closely with the GFF Technical Director, Mr. Claude Bolton to mirror the new developmental measures and systems that he would be implementing for development at the national level.
