Georgetown and East Coast recorded victories when the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) Inter Association U-15 50-over tournament commenced Saturday.
Alphius Bookie stroked an unbeaten 83 to guide host Georgetown to a six-wicket victory over East Bank at Demerara Cricket Club (DCC).
Bookie struck eight fours and two sixes as his team successfully chased 155, ending on 156-4 in 28.1 overs. The DCC right hander shared in a second wicket stand of 37 with Adrian Hinds (08) after they lost an early wicket. Following the demise of Hinds, Bookie and Ashmead Nedd dominated the opposition bowling with a third wicket partnership of 71 with sensible batting in hot conditions. Nedd hit one four and a six before he went for 27, but Bookie and Vickram Persaud (04*) carried their team to safety without further hiccups. Aditya Shivraj and Jeremiah Scott grabbed two wickets each.
Earlier, East Bank batted first after winning the toss and lost seven wickets off 50 overs. Jeremiah Scott cracked 51, while Daniel Scott made 18 and Shivraj 17 not out. The visitors were reduced to 14-2 before Jeremiah and Shivraj resurrected the innings with a third wicket stand of 44. After they were separated, East Bank lost a few more scalps, but Jeremiah and Daniel added 79 for the seventh wicket to give their team a respectable total; Jeremiah was bowled in the last over by Joel Spooner who snared 3-22. His innings contained five fours and two sixes. Extras contributed 35 as Nedd backed up Spooner with 3-29.
At Enterprise, East Coast defeated West Demerara by six wickets. West Demerara batted first and scored 120 all out in 46.1 overs. Sachin Basdeo made 23 while Extras helped with 70. Arvin Gangadin captured 4-17. East Coast responded with 121-4 in 37.2 overs. Gangadin scored 43 and extras supported with 45. P. Goomtipersaud claimed 3-19.
