Dear Sir,
The public disclosure by the GFF’s Normalization Committee Chairman, Clinton Urling that “No General Council Meeting is likely to be held until September, since all emphasis is being placed upon Constitutional Reform”, surely, Editor has left a bitter taste in my mouth, albeit a hard pill to swallow. This is in view of the fact that the “General Council in the Highest Decision Making Forum”, in accordance to the Constitution! While constitutionally, “the convening of quarterly General Council Meetings is a requirement/mandate”. Unless there was an amendment, which no longer requires four General Council Meetings, per year!
As a consequence, are the Affiliates of the GFF (General Council) comfortable with this development? Suffice it to say that pertinent issue affecting the sport in associations; convening of their respective Annual General Meetings; submission of Its Annual Calendar of Activities, and the nation’s participation in the Olympics and World Cup Qualifiers are all “front burner” issues that need to be discussed within the General Council forum (Meeting). In addition to the appointments of the Technical Director and Senior Male National team Head Coach.
So, in actuality to deprive the membership of a voice, or to listen to their plights, transcends into an undemocratic and non-transparent value. Would it be prudent for the Technical Director on any given day to just appear at a match, in any Association without prior notification and is likely to be embarrassed by an irate gateman? Is it prudent for affiliates not being knowledgeable of income and expenditure for 2015; inherent debt and its liquidation?
In the final analysis strengthening of clubs and Association structures; inclusive of constitutional upgrade, are also important factors that cannot be brushed aside within the context of modernizing the sport’s administration. Since the mandate handed down by FIFA must benefit all and sundry, towards achieving the desired results for the nation’s benefit.
By the way, was not constitutional reform/upgrade done before under Klass’ presidency? Was it ever ratified for enactment? While there are glaring examples of FIFA’s undemocratic and non-transparent principles i.e. Russia and Qatar 2018 and 2022 World Cup bids and awarding. A timely reminder however, “No Association or Organization Laws/statutes supersedes the laws that governs a country/nation”!
Respectfully yours,
Lester Sealey.
