Sticking steadfast to its commitment to field a female team at this year’s NACRA Championships
scheduled to be held in June in the USA, the Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) President Peter Green recently presented training kits to Women and Youth Development Officer Petal Adams to enhance the training programme of the female ruggers, at a simple ceremony at the National Park.
Green, who has been at the helm of the Union and for the past two years, during which time the men’s have captured the NACRA Sevens and Fifteens titles in a single year, had promised unmitigated support to the women ruggers as they aim to recapture the regional title as well as qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
The Ladies commenced training recently under the guidance of Head Coach Elwin Chase and he is expected to receive support from Technical Director Angus Thomson, who is currently based in Brisbane, Australia, when he arrives.
Meanwhile, the Union has shortlisted eighteen (18) players to commence training with a view of selection on the team.
The players are: Carren Carter (Pepsi Hornets), Tricia Munroe (Pepsi Hornets), La Toya Hamilton Cordis (Pepsi Hornets), Collette Hope (Pepsi Hornets), Nicole Nero (Pepsi Hornets), Natasha Andrews (Pepsi Hornets), Alisha Fortune (Pepsi Hornets), Shennel Daniels (Pepsi Hornets), Alicia Mentore (Pepsi Hornets), Carren Skeete (Yamaha Caribs), Sabola Gray (Yamaha Caribs), Andrea Lashley (Yamaha Caribs), Grace Jarvis (Yamaha Caribs), Princesa Wilkie (Yamaha Caribs), Vionette Profitt (Yamaha Caribs), Cloetta Dublin (Yamaha Caribs), Theresa Torres (Yamaha Caribs), Cindy Fraser (Guyana Police Force).
