With the chance to play for the top prize of $300,000 in plain sight, the four teams to have made it to the semi-finals in the inaugural West Demerara Guinness ‘Greatest of de Streets’ Futsal Competition will no doubt be going all out to treat the fans to some sizzling action when the semi-finals are played tonight, at the Pouderoyen Tarmac.
In the first semi-final, giant-killers Raiders unit tackle West Side Ballers and this should be a keenly contested affair with the former starting as favourites to win.
They defeated pre-tournament favourites Den Amstel in their quarter-final matchup and judging from that performance the pundits have installed them as the likely of the two to progress to the championship game.
Ronsdale Knight, Kevin Marshall, Alanzo Bowman and Adrian Birch are the players the team will most definitely be depending on to lead them to victory.
On the other hand, West Side Ballers who beat De Kinderen United in their quarter-final clash have shown tough resistance against highly touted teams and another performance of such will come as no surprise to their supporters and the fans at large.
Anthony Harding and Dwayne St. Kitts are among the leading marksman for the Ballers and how well they play will be crucial to the team’s success.
In the other game, host Pouderoyen Showstoppers oppose Patentia Street Ballers and once again the former is highly favoured to march into the final, especially with the partisan support that is expected.
They will look to the likes of Marvin Josiah and Dexroy Adams to lead their assault for goals to win in regulation time, especially with the opposition rate of success in penalty shootouts.
Noel Walker is the main threat for Street Ballers, who pride themselves in being superior in the spot kick segment.
It should be an exciting night for the fans as the two available spots in the national playoffs remain up for grabs.
Before that, a number of exhibition matches have been arranged so fans will have a full schedule of games for the night.
The runner-up team will receive $150,000 and third and fourth place finishers $100,000 and $75,000 respectively.
