– Semis on tomorrow at Pouderoyen Tarmac
Two of the tournaments heavyweights Den Amstel and Uitvlugt were sent packing at the end of quarter-final action in the West Demerara Guinness ‘Greatest of de Streets’ Futsal Competition after suffering losses to Raiders and Patentia Street Ballers respectively on Saturday evening, at the Vergenoegen Rice Mill Tarmac.
Den Amstel, who started as hot favourites to win the inaugural tournament went down to a determined Raiders unit by a narrow 1-0 margin, while Uitvlugt were eliminated via 1 2-1 sudden death penalty kicks shootout after regulation time proved insufficient to break a 1-1 deadlock.
Also making their exits were DeKinderen United who lost to West Side Ballers 1-0, while Pouderoyen Showstoppers proved to be the only high profile team that lived up to expectation after registering a comfortable 2-0 win over Brothers United.
In the earlier exhibition fixtures, Banks DIH Limited defeated the Promoters 3-0 while Vergenoegen defeated the Media via walkover.
The semi-final will be played tomorrow at the Pouderoyen Tarmac with Raiders taking on West Side Ballers and Showstoppers tackling Patentia Street Ballers.
Prior to those fixtures, four exhibition matches will be played.
The winning team is set to receive $300,000 and the championship trophy, while the runner-up takes home $150,000 and a trophy.
Third and fourth place finishers will take away $100,000 and $75,000 respectively.
