Fyrish Black Sharks won a hard fought duel against Ithaca Hardliners 49-47 when the second edition of the Anamayah Memorial Basketball competition continued on Friday at Ithaca Basketball Court, West Berbice.
The Black Sharks started quickly and led 10-7 at the end of the first quarter. They continued their dominance and were in front 24-18 at half time.
With home crowd support giving them much hype and vigor, the Hardliners fought back excellently to trail by one point at the end of the third quarter with the score reading 37-36.
The final segment saw a ding dong battle ensuing with the Black Sharks holding on to the end for the 49-47 win.
McCalmont led the way with 17 for the Black Sharks, while Real Franklyn and Linden Joseph with 10 points each supported well.
For the Hardliners Kevin Edwards with a game high 18 points led the fight with Desmond Jack with 10 and Hycliff McCalmont with 9 supporting in a losing cause.
The competition is expected to continue yesterday when Canje Knights battled Smythfield Rockers at the Vryman’s Erven basketball Court, New Amsterdam. (Samuel Whyte)
