For the second year in a row Winners Connection Football Club emerged
champions in the Banks GT Beer Supa 16 end of year tournament and they were urged not to be complacent and believe that they are “They are King of the Roost” by Banks Executive of Banks DIH Brian Choo Hen at a simple presentation ceremony in the Boardroom of Linden Enterprise Network (Leap Building).
According to Choo Hen, Banks DIH has remained steadfast in supporting the development of sports in Guyana in all regions. “This tournament is just a demonstration of the Company’s dedication towards the sport. We would like to encourage other companies and other organisations to come on board and support sports in Linden so that it can develop and move the community forward.”
In his brief remarks the Banks Executive threw out a challenge to the football community in that they work towards developing the clubs. He asked that they ensure they have a vibrant club it needs ‘to be up and about’. “Being a good member or player of the club calls for dedication as well and in addition to that you also need to come together as a club and work towards maintaining the levels and standards of the club in a sense that you need to look at ways and means you can promote the club and the members so that club members can be spotted by scouts locally, regionally and be selected to play for international clubs.”
Mr. Choo Hen also noted that they need to organize as a club and get financial strength to take the club forward and make the community of Linden proud.
He urged the clubs not to wait for year end to start training and the UDFA Executive to work towards another tournament before the end of year maybe in August/September to keep the sport alive.
Secretary of the UDFA Jermaine Figueira welcomed the challenge and assured the Banks Executive that a budget has already been prepared for a tournament and would be presented next week.
Trophies and cash were also presented to second place winners Hi Stars Football Club, third place Top XX Football club and fourth place Eagles United Football Club.
Most Valuable Player went to Rawle Gittens of Winners Connection, Highest Goal Scorers Rawle Gittens of Winners Connections and Tony Adams of Hi Stars FC, Best Goalkeeper went to Joel Samuels of Hi Stars FC and he was presented with a trophy and a set of goalkeeper gears donated by Richard Reynolds Player/Coach in Antigua Premier League and Fort Road FC and former Top XX and National Goalkeeper.
