A fallen pole on one of two 69 KV transmission lines stretching from Golden Grove to Sophia, resulted in a total shutdown in Demerara and Eastern Berbice around 07:35 hrs yesterday, the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) said.
“Restoration of electricity to all affected communities commenced in Demerara at 08:44hrs. continuing to Berbice with the last community being repowered at 9:15hrs.”
The power company said that during this period, consumers within Kingston, sections of Lacytown and Cummingsburg, experienced intermittent outages throughout efforts to restore power.
“Subsequently, several trees fell onto our network on Hadfield Street which delayed the restoration process. Crews are currently engaged in mopping up operations and addressing isolated cases where individual consumers may have had service interruption caused by the high winds.”
GPL has also said that the public can report emergencies to: Demerara- 2264015/6, Berbice 333-2186 and Essequibo 777-5015.
