As the world, and more particularly our Muslim brothers and sisters, celebrate the life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), we are reminded of the true essence and meaning of life which the Holy Prophet (PBUH) represent. Revered as the last and final Prophet of God his life epitomised an era where laws were established to create a society of wellness, borne out of the necessity for peaceful co-existence.
In that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is credited for drafting the Constitution of Medina (after 622 AD), also known as the Charter of Medina, to forge a nation of oneness among warring factions speaks to his strength and character to transmit to earthly man God’s desire for us to live in peace and harmony. The Medina Constitution instituted rights and responsibilities for the Muslim, Jewish, Christian and pagan communities of Medina, bringing them together as one community.
The rights and responsibilities established in that constitution sought to guarantee security of the community, religious freedoms, the security of women, stable tribal relations, a tax system for supporting the community in time of conflict, parameters for exogenous political alliances, a system for granting protection of individuals, a judicial system for resolving disputes, among others.
Guyanese today, irrespective of religious background, can find identity and association with the greatness of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). That we too, irrespective of our diverse background continue to strive to bring together the disparate groups as One People, One Nation, One Destiny under a constitution that enshrines similar rights and responsibilities bears testimony of that kinship.
As we celebrate the life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) all Guyanese are urged to use his contributions to humankind to make Guyana a better place for them, their families and neighbours.
Happy Youman Nabi to all from the Regional Democratic Council, Region 10!
LISTEN HOW JAGDEO WILL MAKE ALL GUYANESE RICH!!!
