An overseas-based Guyanese is now counting his losses after his two-storey concrete
house went up in flames under mysterious circumstances Monday morning at Bloomfield, Corentyne. This was the second time for the year that fire struck the house.
The house which is owned by overseas-based Premchand Parag, had the entire inside destroyed. It is understood that after the first fire the house was recently renovated at a cost of millions of dollars.
Residents stated that they were awakened around 02:00 hrs. by a crackling sound, and upon looking outside they saw flames emanating from the house. Many residents gathered outside and looked on in awe as the fire ate up the inside of the house.
Residents summoned the Guyana Fire Service which responded in a timely manner. However, by the time the fire service arrived the house was already engulfed in flames. Apart from dousing the house with water, the fire service concentrated its efforts in saving two other houses.
Residents praised the firefighters for their effort.
Kaieteur News understands that the house was burnt in a similar manner last January.
Also on that occasion the house was unoccupied. Arson was suspected on that occasion.
Investigations are continuing.
