A Happy New Year to all! We thank all of you our readers, our advertisers and all those who vend our newspapers for your unstinting support over the past year. We look forward to your continued support and patronage in the year ahead.
Over the past year we have been accused of all manner of things, including being anti-development and anti- government. We wish to use this first edition of 2015 to reiterate that Kaieteur News is NOT here to elect or select or unseat any government. It is not our responsibility to eject or select any government. Neither are we here to elect or promote any party to office. We are not into the business of king-making.
We are the members of the Fourth Estate. Kaieteur News is the leading newspaper in this country. We take our responsibilities seriously. Our primary duty is to protect the public interest. This requires us as a member of the media to hold all of our leaders and political parties up to scrutiny and to ensure that they operate in a just and honest manner.
We hold all of our political leaders’ feet to the fire. We do so to the government and we do so to the opposition. We are not selective in our criticism.
We have criticized the government for its excesses in power, including rampant acts of corruption, just as we have criticized the leaders of the opposition when they fall short of their responsibilities and the expectations of the people.
All we want is for a just society. We want betterment for all Guyanese. We trust that this New Year will witness more progress and justice in Guyana!
LISTEN HOW JAGDEO WILL MAKE ALL GUYANESE RICH!!!
