The life of an 80 year old woman came to a tragic ended on Wednesday (Christmas Eve Day) when she was burnt in a fire which engulfed her home.
According to reports, the elderly woman, Norma Moore, resided in a two-storey wood and concrete building at Manchester Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice. She shared the premises with one Allison Garrick, 18, who has the responsibility to take care of her.
Information revealed that around 14:00 hrs the young woman left the house to visit her parents at Kildonan. Around 15:20 hours residents were alerted to a fire emanating from the house. Efforts to save the elderly woman proved futile.
A fire engine from the Rose Hall fire station responded to the scene but was unable to save the building.
The woman remains were recovered after.
Investigations are continuing.
