Vinod Rajkumar copped the cricketer of the year award when the Meten-Meer-Zorg West Cricket Club held its awards ceremony on Saturday night last at the club’s pavilion, West Coast Demerara.
Seymour Evans picked up the batsman of the year prize, Sheldon Alexander received the all-rounder of the year accolade and 17 year-old Levroy Miggings the bowler of the year trophy.
Travis Mohamed took the junior player of the year award; wicketkeeper batsman Adrian Johnson received the emerging player of the year prize. The ceremony was sponsored by Odyssey Transport Services and Tiger Sports.
In delivering the feature address, Club President Azeem Troy Khan, congratulated the awardees and challenged other members to emulate their feat. He stated that more cricket needs to be played in the area and called on the West Demerara Cricket Association (WDCA) to ensure same.
“A prime example is our Club’s financial report for 2014, which shows us spending a huge amount of money towards development of our ground, fence, covers, gears etc and the WDCA has only invited us to play in five 40-over matches for the year,” he said. The club also participated in the Barakat Brothers T20 tournament.
